Why is it, then, that very few are open about the work it takes to look that good, that often? More often than not, actresses are pressured into revealing the plastic surgery they’ve had or other beauty treatments like fillers and skin-smoothing after being relentlessly hounded by the press or trolls for ages. Even then, they rarely reveal all. In today’s Faciem blog we’ll be discussing some of Bollywood’s biggest actresses and the treatments they’re likely to have had, as well as why plastic surgery and anti-wrinkle treatments are still seen as such a taboo subject area for the industry. Better yet, we’ll be showing you just how accessible these treatments have become. Who would have thought high quality fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments would have been accessible at an aesthetics clinic in Blackburn?

Neelam Kothari:

First up we have Neelam Kothari, semi-retired actress and star of India’s most controversial reality TV show of 2020, Fabulous Lives of Fabulous Wives. The star spoke openly about the ageing process and underwent a facelift live on the show. Shocking, right? But how so?

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Neelam said “I have no problem saying I’m 50. I know that other women out there have had conversations with friends.

.

Everyone is going through this ageing process. Whether in their minds or they are discussing it with their friends, they all want to look good and they don’t know what to do. So I told the creative team that I, myself, am going through this. I want to get something done but I am scared. I said I want to get a filler done. Very little, obviously. I asked if they wanted to capture it and they jumped at it.”

Seldom do we see actresses – especially ones as prominent as Neelam – speak so candidly about beauty treatments. In a world where women’s issues are confined to women’s magazines, it’s refreshing to see a lady as forthcoming as Neelam in sharing what she’s had done and why.

She also went on to say “I just feel that why not? People lie about it and they hide it and say ‘Oh, I don’t do anything,’ which is their prerogative. But I feel there is nothing wrong with going out there and being honest about it. Why not? I just feel like it is going to help other women.”

Couldn’t have summed it up better ourselves, Neelam.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is another of the few actresses to speak openly about her experience with surgery. In her memoir, Unfinished, discusses how she underwent surgery to treat a polyp in her nasal cavity after having trouble breathing. “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone.”

Her surgery was heavily publicised, referred to by the press and trolls as Plastic Chopra, and she went on to reveal that she was dropped from her very first acting jobs after rumours that she looked different. 

“Following the polypectomy I had several corrective surgeries, and over time, my nose normalised. While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I’ve gotten accustomed to this face.”

We can learn a lot from Priyanka’s story, but there’s one key message to take away: no-one should be made to feel like plastic surgery is a bad thing. In her case, the surgery was corrective to put right an error that someone else had made. Would she have gotten surgery regardless had that error not been made? We can only speculate, but even if she did, would it be such a bad thing? Priyanka – whilst she may be one of Bollywood’s biggest stars – is also a person just like the rest of us. If surgery was something that was going to improve her quality of life, so be it. You have our support Priyanka.

Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty, the winner of the especially controversial 2006 series of Celebrity Big Brother here in the UK and one of India’s most high-profile celebrities is renowned for not only her acting prowess, but her incredible physique she’s managed to maintain well into her 40s. She is another celeb on our list who’s been incredibly honest about the cosmetic surgery she’s had, undergoing two nose jobs, which she claims was “not a big deal”. Shilpa chose to have surgery for the same reason many of our clients come to us – to balance out their side and front profiles and to offset her natural features in the best way possible. Unsurprisingly, it is one of the most popular treatments at our Blackburn based aesthetics clinic. Sometimes, getting the results you want is a case of tweaking a few of your features – we call these “tweakments” – to bring out the best in your face.

Kareena Kapoor

Wow…what a difference! Kareena is one of the celebrities on our list who vehemently denies having any surgery done, claiming her stunningly good looks are a result of her genetics. Of course, the following is speculation, but we have to say it is likely she has had some work done – regardless of whether she went under the knife or enjoys injectables.It could be argued that Kareena simply grew out of the baby face we all grew to love during her debut days when she starred in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but some of the changes to her appearance in recent years indicate that she has undergone some treatment. Noticeably, she appears to have undergone rhinoplasty to alter the tip of her nose. Her high cheekbones have likely been made more prominent with dermal cheek fillers – with her jawline also looking far sharper and more sculpted. Most noticeable, however, are her lips. We’re hard pressed to believe Kareena has denied having lip fillers and we certainly don’t understand why if she has – she looks incredible!

Katrina Kaif

We’re rounding out our list with Katrina Kaif – British Bollywood legend. Known for her distinct British accent, especially in her early days in the industry, this actress has never openly claimed she has had surgery, nor has she denied it. From the many pictures of her over her decades in the industry, it is hard not to notice some distinct changes on her face. From the pictures above, it is obvious she has had lip augmentation especially as the filler has migrated to the top of her lips. Ouch, Katrina, we would have thought a Bollywood legend would have known have chosen her aesthetician better. She also appears to have gone rhinoplasty to have her nose appear slimmer and sharper. We can’t fault her appearance – she looks as beautiful now as she did in the early 2000s.
